If you've heard a studio recording by any of these artists, it's likely you've heard the magic that happens in Double D Productions Studio. Some of West Michigan's most talented acts began studio careers at the fingertips of producer and engineer David James. This is Mad-d Talent! Do something with yours!
According to Greek mythology, Apollo is the god of truth, light, and music. Dionysus, Apollo's contradictory moral deity and alter ego, is the god of wine, women, and excess. Along with E$, a more contemporary and personal pseudonym of Dionysus, they make up Lyceum Recordz. This enigmatic trio of characters allows one artist, Eric Leo, to explore philosophy, social reality, and personal experience through the music and culture of hip-hop. His first full-length project, Edulution: The Education Revolution, was released in August of 2011.
Those who call themselves Dead Against display a range of technical skill and virtuosic talent that one might expect from a group of conservatory graduates, but find in this group of motivated metalheads. Their thunder has earned them opening spots with national acts like Dope, Taproot, Bobaflex, Chimaira, and (three times) Mushroomhead. Their first full-length release is on its way from DDP.
Though Dead By Wednesday hails from New Haven, Connecticut, these all-out heavy metal monsters have made Double D Productions Studio their West Michigan home for every tour, enlisting the help of DDP's David James to book shows in the area, run live sound, and even spit rhymes on a collaborative track. You can check out Dead By Wednesday on DDP TV or hear them on Volume 11 of the Streetcult Sampler, along with another DDP artist, Mutations of the Human. If you like heavy rock, do your best to get ahold of their CD or get to a show! In the meantime, check 'em out on DDP TV.
Deadwood Stone has blasted to the top of the local rock scene with their straightforward mix of classic heavy rock stylings and powerfully delivered lyrics. Their reputation for live energy--as well as a debut EP from Double D Productions--has earned them shows with hard rock giants Volbeat, Papa Roach, Chevelle, Fuel, Tantric, Theory of a Deadman, and Saliva. With a brand-new, full-length CD on the way from DDP, these guys show no signs of slowing down. Check 'em out on DDP TV.
In only a few years, SuperDre's fresh electro has landed her in clubs across the nation alongside hip-hop acts like Slum Village, The Cool Kids, and D12 as well as other DJs/producers like DJ Irene, Bassnectar, and Terrence Parker. Her newest album, Follow the Fro, released early in 2011, features tracks mixed and mastered by Double D Productions, including the hit single "Get 'Em Up (ft. Flying Without Wingz)."
Jeremy Arndt travels around the world sharing music, taking photographs, and pursuing dreams. When the multi-instrumentalist wanted to record 14 of his original creations, he chose Double D Productions Studio in his home state. Arndt's recently released album (Journeys, now available for download) features his own guitar, didgeridoo, halo (a relative of the Swiss hang drum), and many other instruments, showcasing his wide range of skill and DDP's wide range of recording flexibility.
Rockabilly trio John Kite and the Club Cats and their classy brand of roots music, while at home in greaser bars and cocktail lounges, presents some exciting challenges in Double D Productions Studio. Kite's voice can flow between angelic and aggressive (he often plays his acoustic guitar like it's a hot-rodded Gretch) and is complemented perfectly by an unwavering rockabilly shuffle from the rock-solid drumkit and booming upright bass of the Club Cats. A full-length album to follow their EP is currently in production.
These Michiganders have been a Grand Rapids indie-rock staple for three years now, as recognized by the annual Grand Rapids Compilation CD as well as Seattle-based band Minus the Bear, for whom they opened early in 2011. Minnesota's groovy intensity has also made its way as far west as Echo Mountain, Colorado, where Echo Mountain TV, an online snowboarding showcase, twice featured songs from their first full-length release Hennepin from Double D Productions. Check 'em out on DDP TV.
Though they no longer perform together, any Double D Productions history would be woefully incomplete without mentioning metal masters Our Fate In Hell. This DDP cornerstone gained a dedicated local following that, along with their prodigious metal skill, secured opening spots for giants like Drowning Pool, Mastodon, and Otep before the members went on to explore different directions.
Irish rockers The Waxies combine traditional Irish music with the high-energy stylings of today's folk-rock bands. Their 2009 release In Pursuit of Dicey Riley allowed DDP engineer David James to show off his ability to mic acoustic instruments and mix them with an electric bass and a traditional drumkit. These lads and lass have shared stages with international Irish bands The Tossers and, on three occasions, Enter the Haggis. Check 'em out on DDP TV.
